Sambal Asam Kelubi/Asam Paya

English : Swamp Fruit
Bidayuh Jagoi : Buah trisum

Iban : Buah Ridan
Scientific Name : Eleiodoxa conferta
(Wikipedia Link)

Ripe asam kelubi will have sourish yet subtle sweetness. This asam kelubi also have sweet smelling fragrance.

We use it to make variety to our Sambal Belacan. Peel the soft juicy pulp from the kernel using knife and add it into Sambal Belachan. It will really add character to your simple hot lunch!

Isn't this asam paya also used in preparing the umai?

Correct Kak Midah. The story told by my Melanau sis-in-law was that, there was no lime in their part at the old days, so they used asam paya. Now they use lime as lime is easily available as opposed to this asam paya.

snakeskin fruit @ Ridan – Sarawak salacca (Salacca rupicola / Salacca sarawakensis). Growth in moisture area along upper river bank not in the swamp.

Buah baka buah salak.

Asam paya = growth in the swamp
